Playing the Trompowsky (hardcover) by Richard Pert

€29.99 Qty:

If like most chess players you have a limited amount of time that you can spend studying, but you still want to push for an advantage with White, then the Trompowsky is a great choice.

The Trompowsky, 1.d4 Nf6 2.Bg5, has not been as deeply investigated as many of the main lines, and it is an attacking opening that is tricky for Black to face. As well as providing an attacking repertoire for White with the ambitious Trompowsky Attack, the author also covers 2.Bg5 against the Dutch Defence, as well as the Pseudo-Tromp, 1.d4 d5 2.Bg5.

Richard Pert is an English international master who has played the Trompowsky with success for more than ten years.

 ISBN: 978-1-907982-76-7 - 264 pages - Published 19 July 2013

Reviews

"Overall, I can highly recommend this book, which is both theoretically robust and entertaining to read, and makes a convenient travel companion to tournaments."

GM David Smerdon, Chess.com (full review)

"The author moves on to showing the world how the Trompowsky can be played with attitude. He succeeds in his quest, as time and time again Richard Pert reveals innovative ideas from both his own games and analyses."

GM Glenn Flear, New in Chess

"While Pert does not guarantee an advantage for White in all the lines, he gives it a good shot based on his own experience and an incredible amount of analysis, much of which is revealed for the first time in this book.

For the intended audience, this is a very good book on the Trompowsky and related openings. It takes the theory several steps forward and will provide the reader with many new ideas and concepts."

Carsten Hansen, ChessCafe

"The book's strengths include numerous mentions of lines given in other books and the author's attempts to refresh things from the white point of view, including a sprinkling of novelties along the way."

Sean Marsh, CHESS Magazine

"Playing the Trompowsky can be recommended to a wide range of players. Attackers and counterpunchers alike will find lines they can champion... It’s because of Pert’s book that I am now playing the Trompowsky on a regular basis. What better recommendation could I give than that?"
